OPINION: WE ARE ALL HOSTAGES -By Aaron Maren

Funny enough I am beginning to see Nigeria as a country that can be likened to a Bank that Robbery is ongoing and the inhabitants are held Hostage with limited or no rights.

Ever since Democracy was actualised Nigerians freedom in the true sense of the word remains in comatose as it were in the military times, It’s becoming obvious that the system of Government we are operating does not favour the majority but only the microscopic few that have been on the driver’s seat of our great nation since independence.

Elections will only remain a mirage as far we still operate this system. Because change of government will only remain at the discretion of the incumbent due to the financial inducement attributed to the activities that do herald it (election).

We will only be day dreaming to think that anyone who have benefitted from electoral malpractice will want to change the system, he will only be defiling the statement in its real sense hence the saying “he who seek equity must come with clean hands”.

We are too poor to sustain an agitation against the status quo, there are countless struggles that started with a lot of energy but where are the results? Your guess is as good as mine “books of history” of course!

We are often put in a puzzled situation of the choice between the devil and the deep blue sea even in electing leaders at all levels in political parties that have structures all over the country.

Perhaps, Stockholm syndrome explains the psychological alliance with our captors in the ongoing heist.

Indeed am beginning to think that we are all just Hostages awaiting a messiah.
